What is the Jazz Symposium?
Our Jazz Band Symposium program is designed to provide focused jazz band skill building, leadership and teamwork for our students similar to what they receive at Concert Band Intensive for Concert Band or Band Camp for Marching Band.
Jazz Symposium helps our students develop and progress at a powerful rate that is demonstrated by their advancement beyond what classroom instruction alone can provide. We do, of course, spend some time having fun and work on team building, but the weekend as a whole is a chance to advance our music, both as individuals and as an ensemble group. Every student makes enormous progress and we leave the weekend united as a whole band once again.
Artists-in-Residence and Section Instructors
In addition to guest educators, we have section coaches who will join us to spend time with our sections to help hone our student's individual skills on each instrument. Thank you Mercer Island Schools Foundation, Mercer Island Schools Band Boosters, and Mercer Island High School PTA for helping make the Jazz Symposium happen!
Where and When is the Jazz Symposium?
Jazz Symposium is held at Camp Casey or Warm Beach Camp, typically on a weekend in early February.
