Band is the best social-emotional and mental health support I know of, and I am so grateful
My son loves band. It is what he missed most during the pandemic closures, and what he looks forward to most at school. It is the best social-emotional and mental health support I know of, and I am so grateful for the Mercer Island Band for this. Everyone is valued - no matter their musical abilities or if they have special needs. Older students welcome, inspire and mentor younger students, from fifth grade, through middle school, and into high school. The staff has carefully figured out how to build the best musicians and best community, to support both aspects equally. This positive, welcoming, inspiring place helps my son be energized about high school and his future in a way that goes far beyond music.
